A new study was released last week by researchers at the University of California that showed a correlation between brushing rates in the elderly and the development of dementia.  The study showed that elderly people who brushed their teeth less than one time a day were 65% more likely to develop dementia than those who brushed their teeth at least once per day.  The reason for this link is still being studied, but there is a belief that the bacteria that causes gum disease can have an affect on the brain.  This just gives another reason to keep our mouths clean, not just from a dental aspect but from a general health aspect.
